Pat Mathiot has been a familiar face and voice at Radio Seychelles, Radio-Television Seychelles (RTS), and the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) for nearly half a century. He began his career in 1978 as a radio producer and presenter, but soon discovered his true calling in the newsroom as a journalist.
When television was launched in Seychelles in January 1983, Pat made history as the country’s first male television journalist and newsreader. He was part of a small but dedicated three-person team that pioneered television broadcasting in the country. He later rose to become Chief Editor, guiding the newsroom through the highly sensitive period during Seychelles’ transition from a one-party to a multi-party state.
In 1993, Pat moved into an advisory role as Special Duties Officer, representing the SBC at international events, particularly across the Francophone world.
Over the years, Pat increasingly focused on mentoring and developing the next generation of media professionals. Training became his main passion, and by the time he officially retired in 2023, he was serving as Head of Learning and Archiving.
Retirement, however, did not keep Pat away from broadcasting. He continues to contribute to the SBC as a part-time trainer and standards officer, helping to guide and mentor emerging media professionals. He has also maintained his connection with his first love—radio—and can still be heard every Friday hosting his two-hour French pop music programme on Paradise FM.
